Why identity systems outlast logos

a thought worth sharing

A logo is a single point. An identity system is the grammar that connects every point a brand makes — from the sign on a door to the footer of an email.

When we build an identity, we start with the constraints: what must stay fixed, and what is allowed to change. A wordmark rarely flexes. A colour palette might. Typography scales. Voice adapts. The system is the set of rules that govern that flexibility.

The brands that last decades are not the ones with the best logo. They are the ones with the clearest system — the ones where any designer, anywhere, can produce work that still reads as belonging.
